Lo siguiente he copiado de un foro de wordreference:
- The present perfect is used all the time in Latin America (Southern Cone excepted), much as it's used in Spain:
-I've eaten a lot this month [and expect to continue doing so]
-He comido mucho este mes [ y espero seguir haciéndolo]
- In Spain, it's even more common, as it's also used instead of the preterit for events that happened in the recent past:
-I ate a lot today.
-Hoy he comido mucho
- Hey, it depends on who you have talked with. I'm argentinian and we never use it in conversation. For example, we would say this "I've had 3 car accidents (up to now)" like this: "Tuve 3 accidentes automovilísticos (hasta ahora)". Well, we also say "vos", instead of "tú", "vení" instead of "ven" and so on. That's why you have to take into account that depending on where the person who you are talking with comes from, they will expect something different from you, or will prefer some tenses/words/expressions to others.
- The present perfect is widely used in Spanish, although in certain regions of America it is completely replaced with the indefinido. It's true that there are some differences between how it's used in English and how it's used in Spanish, but they are minor. (There are also differences in how it's used within Spanish.)
